Thinning and loss is not just a guys problem. I’m sure you know that already if you are reading this. I know it first hand, because female thinning and hair loss had become a major concern for my salon clients. In ladies, thinning manifests more as decreased volume mid scalp, overall thinning, or as a widening part. You don’t have to just suffer through or live with it.
What causes hair loss and thinning in women?
There are honestly a wide variety of reasons for thinning & hair loss in women. It could be genetics, hormonally based by pregnancy, childbirth, thyroid, menopause, it could be from medical issues, a side effect of drugs or treatments, stress causes it, diet & weight will affect hair growth, or even hair styles can contribute to thinning and loss.
Women most often notice thinning and hair loss at the age of 45-55, but it’s happening as early as the 20’s! It is now said that over half of women will find their hair thinning by the age of 50, and estimated that 70% of women over 70 experience thinning and hair loss.
Can Female Hair thinning and loss be stopped or reversed?
In a brief answer, it depends but it is possible. Thinking and hair loss triggered by diet, weight, health, or stress can be corrected when the situation improves. Life stage things like pregnancy, menopause, chronic illness will usually even out after wards, but that hair you were used to prior probably won’t fully return for you, unless you do something about it.
What is the fix for thinning and hair loss in women?
Drugs, like Minoxidil, are often the first direction sufferers go. I don’t like the idea because this fix is just a side effect of drugs for high blood pressure, and must be continued to see the results. Expect to use the drugs for 6 months for full effect. Long term drug use for an issue the drug wasn’t created for doesn’t make sense to me, or make me feel comfortable for my clients. Effectiveness of the treatment varies. Not all see the results they hoped for.
Another treatment is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP). It’s called the “Vampire treatment”. Your blood is drawn, then enhanced to boost platelets, and then re-injected into your scalp.
PRP therapy typically consists of three treatments in a 4–6 week period, with maintenance treatments every 4–6 months.
The price typically ranges from $1,500–$3,500 for the initial three treatments, with one injection at $400 or more. Pricing depends on a number of factors including:
your geographic location
quality of equipment
the addition of nutritive components
Many insurance plans consider PRP for hair loss treatment to be cosmetic and don’t cover any of the costs of the treatment. Check with your insurance provider to see if PRP therapy is covered for you.
Of course hair transplants are an option too.
Iron supplementation can help as it is thought to affect hair when iron is low. See your doctor first and get your levels checked. Your doctor may prescribe an iron supplement, which could help with slowing hair loss.
Shampoos and conditioners from Monat. These daily hair care products use natural factors (instead of the drugs) that work to improve scalp and hair health, protecting against the effects that cause hair loss & thinning. These products treat the root causes of thinning and hair loss.
Shampoos & Conditioners are safer because because of how they work. The products are on the skin for a limited time, then rinsed away. Monat Shampoos and Conditioners are what I consider the safest and most effective because they have been tested and proven to be effective while at the same time, irritation and allergen free.
These products don’t use the drugs that other lines use, and focus on improving the scalp environment so you can naturally grow better hair. The function of many drug and natural remedies are reducing DHT by removing enzymes that turn testosterone into DHT. DHT is the leading cause of thinning and hair loss in women.
Based on the results I’ve seen in my professional clientele and personal circle, I’m completely confident that Monat is the vital part of any hair loss sufferer’s regimen. What clients tell me is they can feel that their hair is becoming healthier, thicker, softer and silkier.
Some sufferer’s opt for medical interventions like hormone replacement therapy (HRT), or hair transplantation of DHT resistant hair from the back of the head to the bald areas. Medical options come with their own risks and concerns like, pain, scarring, and infections.
Things like Biotin, Caffeine, Green Tea, oils, and herbs have been shown to help with female hair loss. Biotin and Caffeine & natural plant oils, are promoters of healthy hair growth, while Green Tea, and herbs are known to fit DHT the element that contributes to somewhere around 95% of hair loss.
The proprietary formulas used in Monat’s hair care products utilize these kinds of safe and effective elements to fight DHT and protect against hair loss & thinning.
I understand the pain that hair loss creates. I’ve sat with clients who had tears in their eyes as they told me of the concerns they had and how they didn’t know what to do before they went bald. I know how important hair is to everyone, because it has been my career for 20 years, I’ve made it my life’s work to research and understand products as they come on the market.
The advice I have for everyone is to take the steps to determine what is causing your hair loss and find the appropriate solutions for you as soon as possible. The sooner you start treatment, the better your outcome will be. Personally I want to avoid drugs at all costs, and will always opt for recommending more natural remedies that are proven safe and effective.
